It’s easy, simply write a short e-mail about your cooperative (include your location and/or number of units in your cooperative) and then ask him/her to co-sponsor the FEMA Disaster Relief for cooperative legislation that Rep. Israel plans to introduce on Thursday morning.
The proposed legislation:
- Adds definitions for common interest community, condominium, and housing cooperative into the Stafford Act;
- Lists condominium and housing cooperative associations as entities eligible to apply for assistance through the Individual and Households Program (IHP), and lists common interest communities as private nonprofit facilities in order to access FEMA assistance;
- Eliminates the current cap on IHP only for condo and coop associations and calls for a new cap to be determined by the rule-making process.
Ask all the members of your cooperative to send e-mails, too.
